How we rate

Last updated September 29, 2026

Every company on Understicker gets a Score from 0 to 100. It is calculated from checks we can run ourselves, on information anyone can look up. No part of it comes from customer reviews or star ratings on other websites.

The two checks we run today

  1. Listing details — up to 60 points. How much of the company's basic information is published on its page: phone, website, address, a short description, the deal types it handles, opening hours, the makes it works with, and the languages it speaks. Source: the company's own website, public directories, and anything the company sends us. A company with all eight published gets the full 60.
  2. Offers collected — up to 40 points. Whether we have collected offers from the company recently. Source: the company itself — the structured data it publishes on its own website, read by us, or offers the company sends us. Either way a person checks them before they go live, and every offer shows its source and date. The check counts if we collected an offer from the company within the last 40 days, whether or not that offer is still running — a company is not marked down while the new month's offers are being collected. A company we have collected nothing from in that time scores 0 on this check.

Not every check applies to every company. The offers check applies to a company whose offers we collect: every dealership, and any broker that sends us its offers. For a broker whose offers we do not collect, this check does not apply, and the listing details check carries the whole Score.

That's 100 points in total. Where a check applies but we have nothing to measure, it scores zero — it is not left out and averaged away. Where a check does not apply to a company at all, it is not part of that company's Score, and the remaining checks carry it in full. Which checks apply is set out above, not decided company by company.

Why your Score may be low

Almost always because we don't have much published about you yet, not because of anything you did. The fastest way to raise it is to send us what's missing, or to tell us about your current offers. Both are free.

Confirming your details

A company that hasn't confirmed its details with us can score up to 90. Confirming lifts that ceiling to 100. Confirming is free, and it never involves buying anything.

One formula for everyone

We calculate every Score with the same formula. There is no way to set or adjust a company's Score by hand — not in our admin tools, not on import. When a fact is wrong, we correct the fact, and the Score is recalculated. If a company tells us a fact is wrong, we hide that fact while we check it, and it doesn't count toward the Score until we finish.

Money doesn't change the Score

A company's Score is calculated the same way whether or not it pays us or works with us as a partner. A paid placement is labeled, and it appears first among companies with a similar Score. It never changes the Score itself, and it never moves a company past companies with a higher Score.

Checks we plan to add

We would rather run a few checks we can prove than many we can't. Time in business, licence status, and how quickly a company replies are all worth measuring, and none of them are in the Score today because we don't yet have a source we can show you with a date on it. When we do, we'll add the check here, say when it changed, and recalculate every company at the same time.

What the Score is not

The Score is not a rating of a company's quality, honesty, prices, or service. It is not a review or an endorsement. It says how much we know about a company and how current its offers are — nothing more.
